Nitin Bal amongst emerging global talent @ New Fashion Designer Grand Prix, Japan

Fashion Design Council of India announced that Nitin Bal Chauhan participated in the New Fashion Designer Grand Prix at the Japan Fashion Week from 14th January, 2009 where the exhibitions were held from the 13th-17th Jan, 2009.

The New Fashion Designer Grand Prix is a competition to showcase emerging global talent in design. It provides an opportunity for students and designers to showcase their achievements and creative skills, with the goal of uncovering and cultivating young fashion designers, who could play an important role in the textile and fashion industry in the future.

Every year, thousands of designers apply to participate in this prestigious competition from countries around the world. Nitin Bal Chauhan was selected for his structured and formal look. His ready-to-wear collection represents the craft traditions of India. As the apex fashion council, FDCI facilitates such cross-border opportunities for the designer fraternity.

A NIFT graduate, Nitin Bal Chauhan is an experimental designer, filmmaker and artist, constantly drawing inspiration from the common man’s life. Also influenced by military, Gothic and folk designs, Nitin’s renditions in ethical fashion attempt at amalgamating Western and ethnic silhouettes with Indian craftsmanship.

His collections are a complex pattern to plane where each one of them looks like a sculpted piece. Sharp cuts and fabric art like pleating, gathering and rouching render a fresh and radical element to the work. Hailing from the Himalayas, this eccentric artist-turned-designer endeavours to bring out the intensity of human emotion in his creations.

London Fashion Week stands strong for emerging brands

London Fashion Week dates may have been shoved around by the heavy weights in New York, Paris and Milan this season but it is still a renowned fashion capital for emerging & independent fashion designers. On February 23rd Nolcha, in association with Gina Conway Aveda Salons and fashion media leaders Fashion TV, will exhibit four selected brands from around the globe.

The event will offer an evening of sophisticated business networking as press, retailers and the London elite are invited to preview Australian designer Bojahn, Russian owned brand Amaka, USA collection Anavaa Kisasa & NYC based British designer, Eenamaria; with complimentary beauty treats and cocktails provided by Sputnik Vodka.

Kerry Bannigan, CEO of Nolcha, commented: “London stands for creativity, outstanding fashions and is a global hub of style. Despite the economical struggles emerging designers are being smart with their finances and are keen to meet agents, international press and be placed in UK stores. I am excited that Nolcha is returning to London to support independent designers with their business growth.”

Nolcha received many applications from designers to showcase their brands during London Fashion Week indicating that there is still a strong interest in the UK market for emerging international fashion companies.

Sarah Morgan, owner of Eenamaria stated; 'I realized when I was on the red carpet at the Golden Globes spending 30 minutes hanging around the Sky Television camera, hoping that my family in Wales would see me, that the UK will always be my roots. It is clear that my influences and sensibility are from there & I am eager to return and expand my collection there.’’

The exhibition style event is being supported by the vibrant and stylish Cannizaro House and Solerra® Sunless Tanning Science. Nolcha is thrilled to once again work with the Gina Conway Aveda Salons after the success of collaboration at The Hospital Club last season. In addition the event will celebrate the finale of Dress the Band– a competition for emerging designers to create a look for the UK band Southern Attic.
